Developing cultural competency is a challenge for every nurse, regardless of practice venue. Dawn Augusta and April Fulton have developed an innovative simulation that couples cultural competency with being a member of the interdisciplinary team. This learning model helps students build confidence with communication and decision- making when planning and implementing care with a diverse population. The communication/decision-making model developed for this project can transcend cultural groups as a simple yet useful tool.
April Fulton currently teaches at Phoenix Community College and Dawn Augusta is a clinical associate professor at Arizona State University in the integrative health program. Both Dawn and April have a passion for developing innovative teaching strategies that bring real-world challenges to the classroom.
